‘The Muppets’ Too Adult, Too Perverted and Incredibly Disappointing…

muppetsLast night I sat down with excitement ready to share a childhood favorite TV show of mine – The Muppets. I was thrilled when I heard that they would come back to primetime and even more excited when my daughter took interest after seeing the promos on TV.

So, last night we cuddled up and turned on The Muppets. What happened next was complete and utter disappointment. My first reaction was that they ditched the classic intro theme music. You know, “It’s time to start the music, it’s time to light the lights…” and was sad to see that was ditched. But on a far more serious level, they completely ditched the funny, wholesome qualities of The Muppets and turned them into crass, perverted, rude puppets.

My daughter didn’t want to turn the station so I turned the volume all the way down and she laughed at Kermit’s funny faces and Animal falling into the drum at the end. In that way she enjoyed The Muppets as they should be – silly slapstick humor and lovable wholesome and silly characters.

Here I thought a new wholesome show was coming back that I could enjoy with my family. Boy, was I wrong…

Next week, I won’t be tuning in. I’ll tell my 5-year-old it was a one time special and leave it at that. The Muppets were ruined, why and how did anyone let this happen? I’ve read that the Muppets were never really meant for kids but the reality is that the Muppets from the 80s that many know and love DID end up being for kids and that’s part of what we loved about them. It was good, innocent fun. Now, not so much…

I have to agree. I was disappointed in the show too.

The Muppets is being boycotted by a Women’s group for being a show that is inappropriate for children. It is too perverted for me to watch with my nephew and niece! They ruined the wholesome quality of the Muppets. Why can’t they make good tv shows anymore?

I know it! I heard they were being boycotted and was glad to hear it. I was so disappointed, I thought finally a good TV show that I can sit down and watch with my family on primetime just before bedtime. So sad what they did to the show and characters…
